Featured Artist System: Greg Grunberg, Actor, Star Wars: The Force Awakens
February 15, 2016Starring in a movie or TV show can make you appreciate the work that goes into audio production, video editing and other technical processes that come together to make us laugh, cry or jump out of our seats. And sometimes, you just want to be enveloped in sound you can feel.
When veteran TV and movie actor Greg Grunberg posted a video of his circular, bookshelf and bay window burdened room and challenged us to turn it into a “kick-ass” home theater…we couldn’t say no.
After recently starring as an X-Wing fighter Pilot in the new Star Wars: The Force Awakened, Greg has always had an appreciation for sound quality but had never gone all the way to create a truly immersive home theater and listening space. Married with three kids, his vision for the room was to create a dual-purpose family music room and personal cinema for entertaining friends. Having appeared in different genres of TV and movie, Greg wanted a system that could go from Pixar to The Pixies and not miss a beat. After discussing his room challenges with our Sound Experts, he decided on an SVS Prime Bookshelf, Center and Satellite speaker 5.1 surround sound system, anchored by an SB-2000 subwoofer.
Greg had never ordered an entire theater’s worth of audio gear before, can you tell?
By embracing the room’s unique features, he was able to create a system that worked with the bookshelf space to provide a low-profile but high performance audio experience. After some additional tweaks to placement and positioning, the results speak for themselves…
During a break after the whirlwind that was Star Wars, Greg was kind enough to answer a few questions about the impact of his new home theater and the good work he’s been doing.
So @SVS_Sound has made my dream come true. My kids are fighting over that perfect spot on the couch to listen to music. #PerfectSound

Questions And Answers:
What was the last showing at the Grunberg Family Cinema?
I just love watching ‘The Untouchables’ in that room. I put it on a LOT. That movie is really great but the sound design and score sound so great through our surround sound system.
What were your kid’s reactions to the new set-up?
I sat them down and blasted a few of their favorite “bass drop” filled tunes and they were blown away. Now they kick it in that room and just listen to music without any other distractions the way I used to do when I was a kid. Because it sounds so pure and amazing in there. I love that. And not only my kids, but my 82 year old father was absolutely brought to tears listening to Kate Smith’s version of “God Bless America” in our music room. THAT blew me away.
What has the SVS gear done for your overall home theater experience?
It’s like having a home theater on steroids! And like hearing and seeing your favorite films for the first time… again.
What was the impact of the subwoofer?
I still have to remind my wife we are NOT having an earthquake. I’m serious.
When you look at what’s being created on Netflix, cable and even network TV, it feels like we’re in the Golden Age of TV. What shows have your loyalty?
Of course my show ‘Heroes Reborn’. Plus I’m loving ‘Daredevil’, ‘Top Gear, and “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee”.
Where does most of your entertainment come from, streaming, Blu-rays, cable, a little of everything?
A little of everything. And I think that’s good. We live busy lives, and to be able to stop watching something on one device and pick up where you left off on a more convenient device absolutely rocks.
What projects are you working on now?
Finishing up episode 13 of Heroes Reborn and prepping a horror flick I wrote and will star in.
You’re also involved in some charity work with the Epilepsy Foundation, what can you tell us about that?
Yeah, thanks, I started www.TalkAboutIt.org as a way to help remove the stigma associated with seizures and epilepsy as our oldest son lives well with epilepsy as do millions of people around the world. I’m shooting a ton of PSAs for that this week and I’m also playing drums in my all-star celebrity charity band www.BandFromTV.org. We play private gigs and casinos and the proceeds support many charities worldwide.
