Neutrality

The term neutrality is used to describe the sound of a speaker and its ability to be faithful to the signal content without coloration or the addition of its own sonic signature. It is of critical importance for a loudspeaker to be neutral because the degree to which it can render an audio signal with pristine clarity is a measure of both its accuracy and its capacity to capture the exact emotion and artistic intent of a musician, director or sound engineer. The best speakers convey such pristine playback that a listener forgets they are listening to a home audio system because the sound quality creates such a convincing effect of "being there" next to musicians or in the middle of a movie.
