Speaker Baffle
January 08, 2018A speaker baffle is the front face of a speaker and baffle design is an often-underrated aspect of loudspeaker engineering. On most speakers, the drivers are mounted to the front baffle. Specifically helping with the high and mid-range frequencies, the baffle minimizes mechanical vibrations and the diffraction of sound waves, to create a more honest reproduction of sound and improved off-axis frequency response. The baffle also prevents the speaker's front and rear waves from colliding and cancelling each other out.
SVS Prime Series and Ultra Series speaker baffles feature tapered edges, called chamfers, to minimize edge diffraction for clear and precise sound staging.
